Above, I talked about comparing other graphs in terms of price. Since we've turned over this rock, let's kick it around a bit. You should have titled it "Dishwasher Price vs Noise Level" for the way you displayed it.īecause I'm not sure if the high price makes it quieter or if a lack of noise makes it more expensive. Most importantly, and probably the cause of this whole disagreement, is that the first term in the title of a graph should be in the Y axis, and the second term in the X axis. I started out by discussing what's easier to read and maybe a more common way of displaying information in a clear manner. Would you want things like "energy usage" or "% metal interior" or "warranty length" or "dishwasher size" in the x-axis? All of these variables will probably be considered dependent on price. Imagine having a lot more graphs and trying to compare them side by side. You want to know what (dependent) you're getting for your money. But most purchases are driven by money, which is why I feel it should be on the most common/relevant axis, x (this is called an independent variable). My graph shows that as dBs go down (noise goes up), price goes down.
